The creek wasn’t that wide, and only a few feet deep at the point that Mira had taken him to.  Jason had spotted something in the reeds near it, going to see what it was as she sat on a large stone soaking up the warmth from the sun.

Jason caught sight of her pulling her phone out as he found what he had spotted.  It was a turtle, about the size of his hand.  Grinning he picked it up out of the water, being careful.

She held up the phone a moment and tapped the screen.

“You took a picture?”  He blinked a moment.

“Because this is the first time I think I’ve seen you happy.”  She gave a grin, “And really, wading into the creek for turtles?  Totally a kid thing.”  She tapped a few things on the phone, bringing up her browser to look for the forum she frequented.  She may not really have ties to any of the cities with heroes, but it didn’t mean she couldn’t keep a watch out for them.  Besides some of them were quite entertaining.

“I’ve smiled come on.”

“Not like tha -” She yelped as he splashed water up on the rock she was on getting her boots wet.  Mira gave a shriek scrambling to get away as she caught him putting the turtle down in a safe spot so that it wouldn’t get hurt by their goofing off.  “You jerk, I mean really, you know how long it takes these to dry.”  The yelling was followed by her setting down the phone, accidentally activating the camera so it was recording the evening sky as she splashed her way towards him, intending on dunking him under.

The water after all was clear, and she had been out there a few times, it never triggered her as much as the pool in town did.

Jason caught her as she charged him, though still managed to lose his footing.  The two of them splashed into the water.  Sputtering the two actually laughed surfacing, Jason keeping his arms around her.  “Thought you were worried about your boots?”  He grinned getting a face full of water.  Sputtering he let her go and she moved back from him giggling.  By then the sun had fully set, the creek was cool, but it was still warm out.

“We should get home.”  Jason had noted her shivering as they had stretched out on the rock slab to watch the stars for a bit.  She had moved against him pointing out the ones she knew.

“And here I was having fun almost forgetting what we had to go back to.”  She sighed sitting up.  “Though probably for the best, and man, my hair’s going to be a mess tomorrow.”  She sighed pulling it back with the band she had moved to her wrist.

“You’ll look fine.”  He rubbed her arms.  “You feeling better?”

She nodded.  “Yes, I needed this thank you Jason.”  She smiled leaning up kissing his cheek.  “Though I’m still sleeping in your bed tonight.”

He grinned softly as she took his hand.  “I already said it was okay Mir.”  He let her lead the way back though noted bouncing lights in the distance, about three pairs.  Looking at Mira, who had frozen in her tracks seeing them he gripped her hand tighter.  He wasn’t going to let her get hurt again.

By the time the three jeeps got to them Jason had moved to keep Mira behind him.  The teen tensed as he moved his arm to keep her behind him.  A quick head count told him there were at least twelve of them.  Hearing Mira’s small whimper he knew she knew the odds too.  “Any of them the ones that were at the garage?”

She nodded.  “Jay, it’s too dark I can’t navigate us through the brush safely.”

“Just stay back alright?”

Jason growled as Mira was grabbed by one of the men.  The teen struggled the best she could as she was pulled towards one of the jeeps.  One of his friends moved to help, doubling over with a well placed kick.

He had already taken three of them out but he could feel his strength starting to wane.  Mira was on the ground, the man over her managing to hold her still.

“Mira!”  He felt a sharp jolt go through him, making him pause a moment, turning to look the way it had come.

Mira struggled best she could but with Ashton pinning her down she found she couldn’t get enough air mostly.  Her wrists were cuffed behind her and he pulled them up keeping her face down.  A coil of rope went around her elbows, tight enough to feel like they were being molded into one.  Hearing Jason yell her name she screamed, only to have something shoved into her mouth as she was flipped back over.  Mira heard his cry, trying to scoot away from Ashton, twisting her head, she saw him go to his knees.  Another cry came from him making him convulse painfully.  She saw two of the tasers that were used.

“Keep fighting me Mira, and I’ll do the same to you.”  Ashton traced the gun he held along her side making her freeze.

“Touch her I’ll kill you!”  Jason managed to growl out, as he was brought down, barely able to fight back as he was cuffed as well.

“Bastard took three and he’s still fighting.”

“You guys take him.  I’ll bring the bitch here.”  Ashton trailed his fingers over her neck and she whimpered.

Jason tried to get his arms free.  Around him the men faded to the darkness as another vision hit.  He had been in this sort of situation before…

A man with green hair stood over him.  He was ranting about something but Jason felt something hit him in the side, doubling him over.  He knew that the man with the green hair was bad, a clown…

Mira watched as he was loaded into one of the jeeps.  She was pulled to her feet and shoved roughly into the back.  Ashton climbed in after her pulling a knife from his pocket.  “It’s going to be a long night, may as well get you comfortable.

She tried to fight, only to have the blade trail down her side, cutting a small slit in the hemline of her shorts.  She froze closing her eyes knowing she wanted to be anywhere then there.  The knife rode up, cutting away her wet sweatshirt.  Admiring the look as it was pulled away revealing a tank top he gave a predatory look.  Mira shivered at the cold air from the AC against her damp skin.

“Now, wishing that I did this sooner,” He trailed his hand over her now bare arms once he had cut the sweatshirt away.  She felt him reach around behind her tightening the cuffs, hooking them to a hook up behind her forcing her to kneel on the seat, her head down almost touching the seat.

Feeling a needle go into her neck she cried out, the sound muffled in the gag.  A few moments later, Mira was shaking her head, fighting off passing out and failing.

“Okay let’s get going.  Would rather not have any more of us hurt tonight.”
